The Stock Market Game
The 7th and 8th grade math classes are participating for the first time in a regional competition known as The Stock Market Game. Students are given $100,000 of cash and $50,000 of credit to invest in stocks and bonds. The competition is held entirely online, and the program allows students to both track and analyze their investments.Simultaneously, our students are also learning how events throughout the world can both positively and negatively affect one's perceived value of a company. Students are to create stock analysis reports filled with stock price percentage change, identify past events that caused drastic changes, and articulate their own personalized predictions for how that stock will do in the future. We have several students doing very well thus far, and even a couple that are ranked in the region. An update will be given this winter on their progress. To support the competition and enhance the student's learning experience, we also plan to take a trip to Wall Street in the spring to see the original center of trading. Perhaps, some of our students can give the ladies and gentlemen on Wall Street a few pointers.
