5th Graders Using Aquaponics

In science, the fifth graders have been trying to figure out if plants can survive without water. They researched the pros and cons of farmers using aquaponics. They also did an experiment where they tried to grow bean plants with just water and air. You can look at the pictures to see how they turned out. Meanwhile the sixth graders have been exploring how plants and animals interact together in an ecosystem. They did an activity where they explored how adaptations affect a plant's chance of survival. They also explored how an organism and its abiotic or biotic factors could be in competition or dependent on one another in an ecosystem. This helped them understand that ecosystems needed to stay balanced in order to stay functioning.
