AP Comparative Politics and Government and Model UN Club Trip to United Nations Headquarters

Mr. Siddiqi's AP Comparative Politics and Government class, alongside the Model United Nations Club, went on a field trip to the United Nations headquarter located in New York City on Wednesday, November 30th. The class is currently studying six international governments, including China, United Kingdom, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, and Iran. The group took part in a briefing on the efforts made to create and keep peace in countries that may have tension. The United Nations representative also talked about some of their efforts to improve education, reduce and eradicate poverty, hunger, and inequality, and sustain an Earth that we can live on.The representative shared the site www.freerice.com with the students. By correctly answering one question, ten grains of rice is donated. "How could a person help end hunger and benefit society by correctly answering questions?" one may ask. Simple. The World Food Programme, a UN branch, purchases the rice with the advertisments sold on the website. The United Nations purchases the rice from local farms which benefits the small farm owners and reduces transportation costs, which allows them to purchase even more rice with the money they save with reduced transportation costs."It was a good atmosphere. Got a very good explanation of what the UN really is and what it portrays in this world. Also saw an actual meeting while we were there, which was pretty cool. Overall, it was a phenomenal field trip," says Mustafa Er, a Junior at Pioneer Academy and a member of the Model United Nations Club.Senior Member of the Media/Journalism Club
