Writer's Workshop in Action in the Middle School!
Writing Workshop is in full swing for the sixth grade scholars at Pioneer Academy! Students have been working on an opinion-writing unit and are currently working on revising their argumentative essays. Essay topics range from cellphone use in schools to junk food consumption and animal testing. Students are most enthusiastic about building and strengthening the claims that they make in their writing. On Tuesday, February 7, students participated in a Musical Papers peer editing exercise. To complete the exercise, students rotated around the room while music was playing. Once the music stopped, students found a new seat. They read the introduction of the essay that was in front of them and left meaningful feedback for the writer. The process repeated so that each student received a total of three peer reviews. After completing the activities, students had an opportunity to confer with their peer editors before they considered suggestions and made revisions to their own work.Kelly Ginart
